Bhimbetka Rock Shelters
Located in Bhopal, our primary travel plan revolves around exploring M.P. first. So for one of our weekend we picked up the World Heritage Site of Bhimbetka. Heard a lot about it but never got a chance to visit. After driving for 45 kms we reached these world famous Rock Shelters often visited rarely by nearby residents! Surprising!
Anyways, considering our travel lust Bhimbetka scored high on our travel list as it offered us a chance to see ancient rock paintings. There are about 15 caves with paintings from the Neolithic times. The rock structures and paintings which dauntlessly stands today winning over all the weathering odds presents a close glimpse into the life of our ancestors, their lifestyle and culture. It is mesmerizing to see and understand their perspective of life during times which marks the very beginning of human civilization!
Though the evidences or proof of the existence of these caves cannot be traced exactly. But, they do make you feel the presence of mankind and its ways prevalent in the Satpura valley 1000s of years ago! Not only the paintings but the hefty Rock caves are a marvelous monument to see that has endured the passage of time and is still standing in tact even after assumed age of 100,000 years. It seems next to impossible to know when and how these rocks came into existence, but, its presence itself is a wonder to cherish!
Such a nice blog.
